Ooof. Hello Monday. Woke up this morning feeling like I need a week off to recover from half term! It’s been a busy one, squeezing in work between between a day trip to London, strawberry picking, crabbing, dog walks, a cinema trip, play dates with friends and a lot of pretending we’re a family of cats, but I’m back at my desk today. Let’s all hope for a (relatively) quiet and productive week 👌🏻. #monday #balance #todolist

Time is a funny old thing. I’m pretty sure we’ve only just had the new year and apparently it’s April already. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My last few weeks have been particularly topsy turvy, and my growing to do list has been largely abandoned because of a relative falling very ill and sadly passing away and then Millie isolating from school (she’s fine). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With a few days off ahead of me it’s made me think about the value of time; time with people (essential), time on my own (even more essential), time on my business (my bank tells me this is “essential”). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All of it is fluid when it needs to be and the balance is down to you. And though the guilt of not working much recently is HUGE I’m determined to ignore it and allow myself a bank holiday break. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is a rambling post, but what I wanted to say that I hope you’re all able to enjoy the long weekend with your nearest and dearest in one way or another, and that you get to stuff your face with Easter treats 😊. That’s what I’ll be doing!

I’m doing a little look back today. January 2021 marked two years since I was first paid for work as Liz Pusey Communications. Whoop! I think it was about a year or two before that when I made the decision to leave a life of employment and go it alone. We’ve come a long way baby 💃🏻. So what have I learned? 🧁 IT’S POSSIBLE - this is the biggest one. Taking the leap took so long because I was worried about all the what ifs, but I’m still going and I’m doing great! 🧁 IT’S ALL ABOUT CONNECTION - you can shout as loud as you like on your own but honestly, it’s those around you who keep you going. Ex colleagues, clients, networking friends and industry buddies, I have such a lovely team I can call on for advice, cheerleading or support. I’m a sole trader but never on my own. 🧁 NOTHING STAYS STILL - for a long time I felt I had to know everything about everything to prove my worth, but I don’t. There will always be more to learn, and that’s exciting! I’ve had coaches, teachers and done courses and continued development is very much part of the job. 🧁 YOU CAN’T DO IT ALL - this is a biggie. No one can! Whether it’s bringing in help now and again for big projects or getting professional services for a VA, accountant or copywriter 😉, getting help is essential. 🧁 I DID THE RIGHT THING - I’m a fully certified over thinker and this move was a huge step in so many ways but it’s been amazing, and I genuinely wouldn’t change a thing. Do you have a too difficult box? Somewhere you put the tricky tasks in your head to settle and wait until you’re ready to do them? ME TOO. (Just ask my accountant - I finalised my tax return days before the deadline!) The thing is, a bit of procrastination is perfectly normal but those tricky tasks don’t go away. They sit in your mind poking at you and they are super annoying. There are entire libraries of books on productivity and whichever method you subscribe to the method is often the same - just get on with it. If there were medals handed out for avoiding things I’d have a fair few at home but I know it’s not helpful for me. Plus, nine times out of ten when I actually get down to work the task a) wasn’t as tricky as I thought and b) feels awesome to tick off on my to do list! So here’s mine for today - I’m going to finally make some website edits I’ve been putting off! I’ve seen a lot of posts about #bluemonday, but learned from the very clever @beckyattwood07 that it was started many years ago as a stunt. Dreamt up by PR people in the holiday industry as a way to boost January sales. I much prefer #brewmonday - the @samaritanscharity version which encourages us to get talking over a brew to combat loneliness and isolation. Far more worthy, and involves tea! I think this year I’ll personally know it as woo! Monday, a day when I secured two lovely new clients.
